Bonnie Prince Charlie ➔ Bonnie Prince Charlie Headboard

Headboard used by Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) during his stay at Bannockburn House in 1745 and 1746. 

Part of the sale of the purchase of Bannockburn House by the BHT. Hand hewn veneer 5-6mm thick. Layers of pine and veneer with five layers of fabrics. Two are from the same time period. The first layer is from the 1930s that was part of curtains that Ms. Mitchell had put onto the headboard. 

The second layer was a green and wool silk with stripes and a flower design from the late 1880s - 1910s. Found in poor condition.

Visible later: Cotton chince hand printed with floral pattern. Printed with a hand carved block. The even distribution of the pattern suggests it is from the late 18th century. 

Hand woven blue silk layer beneath existing layer of fabric. Blue-turqoiuse that has been oxidized to a grey-green shade, common for Prussian Blue. 

Behind the silk is a linen backing layer stuffed with horse hair. 

Damage on the back which appears to be a repair attempt from a pistol ball. 

Found as the footboard on a larger bed that included a headboard, posts, and horse hair mattress. The bed had wooden slates with 20th century webbing.
